Among women, care workers, nurses and sales/retail assistants had the highest deaths.
Data reveals that 171 female social care workers and 142 health care workers died as a result of the Coronavirus between the 9th March to 25th May.
In July, the Public Accounts Committee said around 25,000 patients were discharged into care homes in England between mid-March and mid-April without being tested for COVID-19.
Unite swiftly renewed their call for their public inquiry into the government’s handling of the pandemic, with assistant general secretary Gail Cartmail saying: “COVID-19 has heightened attention on the underlying shortcomings in the social care system that have been building up for decades.
“The workforce needs job security, decent pay that recognises their skills and assurances on the basics such as adequate PPE and sanitation provisions.”
